We have an expansive instrumental music program consisting of our Sensational Senators Marching Band, a concert band in both our middle and high school, and a jazz band, all led by head band director, Mr. Aaron Blevins, and assistant band director, Mr. Layne Wellman.
Middle School Band
Middle school band is a highlight of our day! Bringing together 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students, our band is a unified group with one mission: to create joy through music! Throughout the year, we showcase our hard work and passion at events like the Veterans' Day Ceremony, Winter Concert, Spring Concert, Musical Ensemble, and Trills and Thrills at King's Island. Every rehearsal brings us closer as musicians and teammates!

Sensational Senators Marching Band
The Sensational Senators Marching Band brings spirit, strength, and sound to every performance! Made up of dedicated high school musicians and select 8th-grade students, our band represents the best of teamwork, talent, and tradition. Whether we’re performing in parades or energizing the crowd at football games, we take pride in every step and every note.

Concert Band
The High School Concert Band is where dedication meets musical excellence! Composed of our talented high school students, this ensemble works together to create powerful and moving performances that showcase both skill and heart. From the solemn beauty of the Veterans' Day Program to the excitement of the Winter and Spring Concerts, our band brings music to life with every performance. With focus, unity, and a shared love for music, the High School Concert Band continues to set the standard for musical artistry and school pride.
Jazz Band
The High School Jazz Band is where rhythm, style, and creativity come to life! Open exclusively to high school students, this extracurricular ensemble explores the rich world of jazz, from swing and blues to funk and Latin grooves. With improvisation, collaboration, and a whole lot of soul, the Jazz Band brings a dynamic and unforgettable sound to our school and community.

Mr. Aaron Blevins is the director of instrumental music at Portsmouth West Middle/High School. Mr. Blevins holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree (Percussion) from Morehead State University, studying with Dr. Brian Mason.
